  • The department operates under a traditional law enforcement table of organization. Headed by a Chief of Police, the department has a Lieutenant and five Sergeants who handle the operational and administrative duties of the agency.  Motorcycle officers handle traffic related concerns in and around our schools and eight School Resource Officers are assigned to comprehensive high schools providing a high-profile police presence and an invaluable resource for students and staff. 

    District Safety Officers are assigned to high schools, intermediate and K-8 schools throughout the District. Five full-time dispatchers answer incoming telephone calls, dispatch School Police personnel, monitor fire and burglary alarm systems, and coordinate with the City of Santa Ana Police Department Dispatch Center.             

    The Department is also an authorized Live Scan service provider.  Please contact administrative staff at (714) 558-5732 to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.  The police department is located at the east end of the Administrative District Offices at 1601 East Chestnut Avenue in the City of Santa Ana.  The police administration building is open Monday - Friday between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM.  Our 24-hour telephone number for emergencies and calls for service is (714) 558-5535.

    The Santa Ana School Police Department is the 3rd largest school police agency in the State of California, while at the same time serving the 7th largest school district in the State and the largest in the County of Orange. The Santa Ana School Police Department is an approved agency in accordance to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) and the primary law enforcement agency for the Santa Ana Unified School District.

    The police department consists of 30 sworn peace officers, five full-time dispatchers, and 50 civilian District Safety Officers and professional office staff. The Department provides 24-hour a day service to over 39,000 students and approximately 4,800 staff members at 60 schools and District locations; covering 24 of the 27 square miles located within the City of Santa Ana.  School Police personnel handle over 12,000 incidents per year and work collaboratively with allied law enforcement agencies to keep our students and staff safe.
