to encourage students to read more, Mrs. Sanchez and Miss Sweeney teamed up to create Franklin’s first reading club where students are provided with a learning environment that fosters their reading comprehension skills. In its fifth year, the club has proven to be a tremendous success.
Using the TumbleBooks Library,  an online collection of animated, talking picture licensed titles from children's book publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Chronicle Books, Candlewick Press, Charlesbridge Press, Harcourt, Little Brown, Walker & Company, Lerner Books, and HarperCollins Publishers, amongst others and Renaissance Learning Accelerated Reader, students are provided with thousands of recommended titles from which they can create their own book lists, take comprehension quizzes on the books they have read, and ultimately earn prices.
This year, our reading club is geared towards third, fourth and fifth grade students. Third grade students will have the opportunity to participate during their lunch time. Fourth and fifth grade students will be able to participate on Wednesdays after school. In addition to exciting prizes, students will go on field trips, compete in reading marathons and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday.
