Principal's Message

  •  Cindy Landsiedel

Welcome to Jim Thorpe Fundamental Elementary School, we look forward to another great year together.  Whether you are a returning family or new to Thorpe we welcome you and thank you for choosing our school to prepare your child for bright futures.  Jim Thorpe Fundamental School is beaming with pride, recently recognized again as a California Distinguished School celebrates the hard work and dedication of our teachers, staff, students and parents.  Our instructional program is designed to touch the hearts and minds of our students and community. We believe that all students can reach great educational heights and that it is our responsibility to create a learning environment that allows all students to soar. Our highly qualified teachers work collaboratively with grade level teammates to create a standards-based instructional program that is filled with enrichment experiences for all students. Teachers flock to training and take advantage of every opportunity to grow as expert educators. Our goal is to meet the needs of the students by delivering a balanced instructional program that includes clear objectives, teacher modeling, guided student practice, and supported independent application of skills, strategies, and concepts. Enter our doors and you will see students engaged during whole group lessons, eagerly sharing ideas and responding to open ended questions. You can observe students working cooperatively in small groups as they strive to solve a problem and chart their solution. Parent volunteers will be reading and conferring with students and you will definitely see students learning with self-confidence and zeal.

We provide our students with many authentic reasons to read and write as we bring learning to life through study trips and guest presenters. Star Base Camp, Meet The Masters, Hands-on Science visits, fieldtrips and guest speakers are learning experiences that strengthen our instructional program.

As a Fundamental School we join Greenville and Muir as we take pride in our school community; a uniform dress code is the expectation that includes the options of a red, while or blue collared shirt and navy, black or khaki pants or shorts with belt loops and a belt (K and 1st do not need a belt), skirts or jumpers. **   We believe that students will feel a sense of belonging and community as they wear our school colors with pride.

All teachers support school wide expectations for excellence and we thank you in advance for your partnership with us to help students in all aspects of Thorpe life.
Our entire learning community values and celebrates learning. We have fantastic responses to our Family STEAM night, Parent Coffee Chats with the Principal, PTO events and Back to School Night and Open House. Teachers and the many hard working PTO volunteers plan these annual events. They are grand traditions that highlight the skills and talents of our students.

Caring for our families and community leads Jim Thorpe Fundamental School to build the best instructional program for each student. We want all of our Thorpe Eagles to soar high throughout their lives.
Assistant Principal Karen and I have an open door policy, and we welcome your questions, concerns, and input at any time
