  • Chromebook Information

We are encouraging all students in grades 4-8 to take advantage of the 1-to-1 Chromebooks provided in the classrooms. In order for the students to take the chromebooks home, they need to sign up for an insurance policy. We will be working with the PTA to collect the permission slips and insurance information. The cost for insurance coverage for the entire year is $21. Please drop by the office to ask about purchasing Chromebook insurance.

Principal's Message

  •  Kevin Tonai

    Welcome back Huskies!

2017-2018 is going to be a great year! We have many new faces at Esqueda and we are excited to introduce our new staff members. Joining us in first grade are Ms. Briz and Mr. Mendiola. In third grade we have Mrs. Hu and Mrs. Dodge (formerly 4th grade). In fourth grade we have Mrs. Holland and Mr. Wakayama (formerly 3rd grade). In the middle school there are several new teachers: Mr. Chavez (6th Grade Math/Science, Spanish), Mrs. Mercer (6th/7th Grade Math), Ms. Anderson (6th/7th Grade Science), Mr. Golding (8th Grade English/Speech), and Ms. Sosa (Physical Education). If you don’t get to meet these teachers now, make sure you come and join us for Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 31 for grades TK-4 and Thursday, September 7 for grades 5-8.

The district adopted two new math textbooks for the upcoming year. We will be using the Math Expressions text for the elementary school and the College Preparatory Mathematics (CPM) program for the intermediate school. Our teachers will receive training this summer in the new math to prepare for next year. SIPPS reading instruction has been implemented in grades 1-3 and students are gaining in their reading instruction. We also purchased the MyOn program to give students access to hundreds of books through the internet.

We know all the students are excited and ready to learn. We want each student to set high academic goals and do their best to reach those goals. We plan to have some informational parent meetings this year on a variety of different topics from discipline to helping students in the home. We will also be continuing with the Playworks program again for the upcoming year. Coach D and Coach Veronica will be leading the charge on the playground.

At the school and throughout the district we are encouraging all students, parents, teachers, staff and community members to make the “I Pledge for SAUSD” commitment. We would love to get everyone involved in the Esqueda community!

If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by and visit us in the office. We are looking forward to an amazing school year!

    Thanks,

    Kevin Tonai, Principal
