    Turnaround Arts

This year will be a our 3rd year as a Turnaround Arts school. This year we will be continuing to build the Visual and Preforming Arts program at Sierra Preparatory Academy with the support of Turnaround Arts: California. Turnaround Arts: California is a non-profit organization established to administer Turnaround Arts, a signature program of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities, in the State of California. Schools in the national pilot phase of the Turnaround Arts program demonstrated increased academic achievement, increased student and family engagement, and improved school culture and climate.

This year we will be partnering with CoTA and Get Lit for our coaching artists and artist residencies. The Get Lit model follows an original call-and-response technique. Poets learn classic poetry, claim a poem that resonates, and then pen their own spoken word response pieces, which they perform in tandem.
