    Santa Ana Unified Offers 21st Century Career Academies

     

    The Santa Ana Unified School District offers 21st Century Career Academies to our students seeking to enter the workforce with specialized skills after high school graduation.

    Our Career Technical Education (CTE) department is focused on providing exemplary career technical education and workforce preparation that contributes to student academic and career success and the economic development of our community.

    Our goal in CTE is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to move on to whatever career path they choose. Our Career Pathways include:

               ·         Sequence of courses between intermediate, high school and college
               ·         Credit-bearing college courses offered in all pathways
               ·         Workplace training internship programs
               ·         Industry certification opportunities
               ·         Updated CTE course outlines that meet the University of California A-G eligibility requirements

    Our hope is to prepare students for the full array of opportunities that await them after high school for both college and career.

    Intermediate and High School Pathways 

    We provide pathways at both the intermediate and high school level. 

     

    • Intermediate: At the intermediate level, for example, Spurgeon students can study information technology and engineering, while Sierra Preparatory Academy students can learn more about building trades and construction in addition to information technology. At Carr, students may focus on design, visual and media arts in addition to information technology and engineering.     • High School: SAUSD also offers High School Pathways at the upper grade level. At Century High School, for example, students can choose from an array of Anchored Academic Pathways that focus on subjects ranging from Arts, Media, & Entertainment to Education, Child Development & Family Services to Business & Finance. At Santa Ana High School, students can learn more about Engineering & Architecture, Fashion & Interior Design, and Health Science & Medical Technology, among other topics. To view a chart showing the High School Pathways that SAUSD provides at nine campuses, click here.

    Career Technical Education Programs and Courses

    CTE is available to all high school students in the Santa Ana Unified School District. The CTE programs and classes offered are specifically focused on career preparation with the main goal of preparing students for the workforce of the 21st century. The CTE Program includes district-sponsored CTE courses which are aligned to state-adopted academic standards.

     

    These include UC a-g Approved Courses, Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment, and Internships – Work-Based Learning. To learn more about these, click here.

     

    Other programs include:

    • High School Inc. Academies, a partnership of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, Santa Ana Unified School District and High School Inc. Foundation that provides small-group learning environments in which students acquire the specific skills needed to secure employment in high growth, high-tech industries. Multiple paths to student success are made possible by the coordinated efforts of industry-led academy councils formed from the business community, as well as a specially trained faculty and administration. The academies include: Automotive, Transportation, and Logistics, Culinary Arts & Hospitality, Engineering/Construction/Manufacturing, Global Business, Health Care and New Media

     

    • The Career Academy Scholars Program (CASP), a dual enrollment program allowing high school students from the Santa Ana Unified School District to receive both high school and college credit for taking a college-level career technical course.

     

    • Project Lead The Way (PLTW), the leading provider of rigorous and innovative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education curricular programs used in elementary, middle, and high schools across the U.S.

     

    • Santa Ana TECH, a partnership led by Santa Ana Unified School District, Santa Ana College, Goldenwest College, Coastline College and The ACME Network. The goal of the collaborative is to create local, sustainable career pathways for student success. Together, and individually, the partners work to align course sequences with industry partnerships and real work-based learning opportunities for students in ten high schools and three community colleges.
