    Mission Statement
    The Santa Ana Unified School District Health Services program is a group of highly dedicated professionals working in collaboration with staff, families and community, to optimize the learning capacity of school children.  As part of the Coordination School Health Program, Health Services works to promote health, prevent disease, and manage health concerns so children come to school ready to learn.
    The SAUSD Nurses provides the following services:
    • Gives care to the student or staff with a medical emergency
    • Performs mandated screening for vision, color vision and hearing
    • Identifies and follows-up health problems which may interfere with learning
    • Serves on teams to discuss special health and educational needs
    • Manages the prevention and control of contagious diseases
    • Coordinates referrals to community and school based agencies
    • Assists parent with access and utilization of the health care system
    • Provides crisis intervention
    • Educates staff in medical issues
    • Supervises staff in medication administration and performance of special procedures
    • Participates in disaster preparedness
    • Collaborates with school staff, parents, and health care providers
    • Develops and implements health curriculum
    • Provides TB screening and hepatitis immunizations to employees when possible
    • Promotes wellness, healthy life styles and illness prevention
