• Coordination of Benefits
    Coordination of benefits is available to benefit-eligible married employees of the Santa Ana Unified School District.
     
    Below we have provided information of the perks of coordinating your health insurance coverage with your SAUSD employed spouse.  Dual coverage options apply to medical plans only.  Dental plan costs are not waived.
     
    Certificated & Management Employees
    Classified Employees
    OPTION ONE
    Coordination of Medical Benefits
    Available to married Certificated and Management benefit-eligible employees and retirees only.
     
    How It Works
    One of the married couple waives their benefits and their spouse elect's coverage for them and their dependents.
     
    What is the Incentive?
    No medical premium is paid by either employee.  Your medical premium will be waived and the District will pay your medical plan cost.
     
     
    OPTION TWO
    Dual Coverage
    Available to married Certificated and Management benefit-eligible employees and retirees only.
     
    How It Works
    Both of the married couple elect coverage.  One pays the higher rate, such as family or two-party, the other spouse pays the single medical rate.
     
    What is the Incentive?
    Co-payments and medical services are covered at 100%.  If you have the Blue Shield PPO, you have to meet both your medical and prescription deductibles before any services are covered at 100%.
     
    Want to Sign Up?
    If you qualify and would like to take advantage of one the these coordination of benefits options, you must enroll within 30-days of your employment or during Open Enrollment (usually held in May).  You also have a 30-day enrollment opportunity if you get married during the year.
    Employer-Paid Flex Spending Account
    Available to married Classified benefit-eligible personnel only.
     
    How It Works
    When a Classified employee is married to another SAUSD employee, regardless of their classification and both are benefit-eligible, only one of the married employees may enroll in to coverage for them and their family.
     
    What is the Incentive?
    SAUSD will provide a $500 Flexible Spending Account, free of charge, each school year.  You must enroll with American Fidelity each year to continue receiving this benefit.

    If you qualify and would like to take advantage of this SAUSD-paid benefit, contact American Fidelity, 1 (800) 622-1113, to setup the Classified Employer Paid Flexible Spending Account within 30-days of your employment or during American Fidelity’s open enrollment (usually held in May and June each year).
