American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State are the premier programs for teaching how government works while developing leadership skills & an appreciation for your rights as a citizen. As a participant in the program you, will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun summer program. You’ll meet other students from across your state who will become friends for life. You’ll develop confidence and leadership skills that will shape your future.
Click here to learn more about the program. To be considered for Boys and Girls State, students must have junior standing and demonstrate outstanding leadership and academic achievement. Recruitment takes place in late January - early February.
Interested students should submit a 1,000 word essay about a current event that you are interested in. Within the word count you should also include "Why you are interested in representing Segerstrom High School at California's Boys/Girls State and what makes you the best candidate." Please include a resume with your essay and turn in to the Higher Education Center by December 1.
California's programs will take place on the following dates:
Boys State: June 15 - 22, 2018 at CSU Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)
Girls State: June 25 - 30, 2018 at Clarement McKenna College (Claremont, CA)
