SAUSD to Serve Free Weekend Meals for Children as Part of Free Summer Meal Service

The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) is renewing its commitment to providing free, nutritious meals to local children by expanding its summer service this week to include the distribution of free weekend meals as well.

Beginning June 19, 2020, SAUSD will distribute breakfasts and lunches for children to consume on Saturdays and Sundays. The meals will be given out during the existing Friday meal service time, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Under the guidance of the Board of Education, SAUSD served more than 1 million free meals to children during the temporary closing of its campuses in the 2019-20 school year to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

SAUSD is continuing to provide for the nutritional needs of local children by hosting a free summer meal program through July 31, 2020.

Free meals are available to all children, ages 1-18, during this time.

Food is distributed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following eight locations:

  • Madison Elementary School
  • Romero-Cruz Academy
  • Carr Intermediate School
  • Willard Intermediate School
  • Villa Intermediate School
  • Saddleback High School
  • Santa Ana High School
  • Segerstrom High School

Meal service will be closed on July 3 and July 6, 2020.

Special precautions are continuing to be taken during meal service for the health and safety of all involved. Social distancing is being practiced at all sites, and meals are being distributed in a no-contact, grab-and-go fashion.
