The SAUSD Board of Education this week recognized Altalagi Dougan as Classified Employee of the Month for January 2020. Altalagi Dougan is an Instructional Assistant, at Willard Intermediate School.
Bertha Benavides, principal of Willard Intermediate School, had this to say about Altalagi during the January 14, 2020 Board meeting:
“Good evening Mr. Almendarez, Members of the Board, Members of the Cabinet, Ladies, and Gentlemen:
It is with great pleasure and pride that I present Altalagi Dougan as the January 2020 Classified Employee of the Month.
Ms. Altalagi Dougan is a well-respected paraprofessional at Willard Intermediate. She is the very model of compassion, hard work, and pride. She assists in the Severe/Mod classroom.
Her passion and love for education are contagious and unique. She is always willing, to not only help her assigned teacher, but also others that may need her assistance.
Her demeanor is calm and loving which helps her connect with her students and staff. She always goes the extra mile to help her assigned teacher with discipline issues, academic instruction and organizing any field trips or events in the classroom.
She not only helps organize events in her own classroom but also volunteers to be head coach for the school’s volleyball and basketball team. She has also started our first cooking club.
With her background in working at the TV Food Network students have enjoyed having her as an academic/club advisor. She bring a strong sense of unity amongst the staff and students.
Ms. Dougan is well respected by parents, staff and students. Her commitment to our school, teacher and students is evident by all the activity she involves herself in even though it’s not part of her job description.”
