SAUSD's 2025 Classified School Employees of the Year Have Been Announced!

On January 8, 2025, SAUSD Board of Education Clerk Valerie Magdaleno, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Perez, and other District leaders honored the five 2025 Classified School Employees of the Year during surprise visits to their work sites.

With balloon bouquets in hand, the team recognized each recipient for their outstanding service and dedication to the district and its students.

The honorees will be formally celebrated at a Board of Education meeting in May, and their names will be submitted to the Orange County Department of Education for consideration for the county’s 2025 Classified School Employees of the Year awards.

Rocio Dominguez - 2025 CSEOY

Rocio Dominguez

Office Manager, Kennedy Elementary School

Ms. Dominquez has shown remarkable attention to detail and is proactive in managing her administrative responsibilities. She is dedicated to ensuring that our school's daily operations run smoothly and seamlessly. 

Ms. Dominquez is the engine of the school, making sure that parents and community members are greeted with a warm welcome, that their issues are addressed in a timely manner and our community is kept up to date with all important school communications. 

Ms. Dominquez is always one step ahead in anticipating needs and resolving issues before they arise, and creates a warm, friendly office atmosphere. Our staff looks to her when they need support. Her solutions-focused approach inspires those around her. 

As long as I've worked at Kennedy Ms. Dominquez has gone out of her way to give great customer service, take care of Kennedy staff and parents when they need something. 

Ms. Dominquez is a valuable partner in helping craft the school's communication with our staff and community. She has the ability to leverage her years of experience working with the Kennedy community to maximize our outreach and make Kennedy a desirable place to work and learn. 

Ms. Dominquez has taken the time to build important relationships with parents and district personnel to the betterment of Kennedy Elementary.

Activity Monitor, Edison Elementary School

Cathy’s exceptional dedication as an Activity Monitor shines every day at our school. She greets every student by name, making each one feel valued and welcomed. Her positive attitude is contagious, creating a warm and supportive environment that students and staff alike appreciate. Cathy goes above and beyond to help others, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the entire school community. Her caring nature and genuine enthusiasm uplift our campus daily, making her an invaluable part of our school and a truly deserving candidate for Classified Employee of the Year. 

Cathy’s dedication is truly exceptional. Every day, she greets each student by name, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. Elia Guillen

Student Support Paraprofessional, Heroes Elementary School

Heroes Elementary is proud to nominate Elia Guillen as our Classified School Employee of the Year. Elia is an essential part of our SIPPS rotation, where she supports both special education and general education students in building a strong foundation in reading. She prioritizes her students, always striving to understand and address their needs, especially on challenging days. 

Elia has been a cornerstone of our Heroes community since its opening. She consistently goes above and beyond to support the needs of her students and their families with empathy and understanding. Her meaningful connections extend beyond the classroom, as she maintains relationships with past students and older siblings who are now thriving in college.

Elia is a cornerstone of Heroes' Fall Festival, attending each year out of her love for our community. She selflessly gives her time and support without ever asking for recognition or reward. 

I have had the privilege of working alongside Elia for the past eight years, and she is absolutely amazing. She supports all of our special education students in achieving their goals, providing seamless push-in support across multiple classrooms. 

Elia is always well-prepared, whether leading small groups or working one-on-one with students, ensuring lessons are reinforced and skills are thoroughly practiced. Her dedication and expertise make her an invaluable asset to our school community. I could not do my job, and our students would not achieve the progress they do, without Elia. 

Her deep knowledge and experience make her an invaluable partner to Mrs. Edward and a tremendous asset to our special education team. Elia is known for being friendly, responsible, respectful, and reliable. She is always eager to learn and gives her very best in everything she does. Computer Technician, Mendez Fundamental Intermediate School

At Mendez Intermediate, the computer technician is more than just tech support—they’re the backbone of the school’s technology. Every student relies on their Chromebook, and every teacher depends on interactive whiteboards to enhance lessons. Mr. Peña ensures that this technology-driven ecosystem runs smoothly. Mr. Peña maintains the school’s network so devices like Chromebooks and iPads are always connected, essential for a seamless learning experience. When new technology arrives, he integrates it into the existing system, enabling students and teachers to benefit right away.
