Board of Education to Hold Public Hearing on Office of Indian Education Formula Grants for 2022-23 School Year
The Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education is holding an upcoming public hearing on the Office of Indian Education (OIE) Formula Grants to Local Educational Agencies Program proposal for the 2022-23 school year.
The public hearing will focus on the program proposal, which is to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Indian Education (OIE) in May 2022.
The OIE Formula Grants to Local Educational Agencies program provides grants to support local educational agencies (LEAs), Indian Tribes and organizations, and other eligible entities in developing and implementing elementary and secondary school programs that serve Indian students.
These funds must be used to support comprehensive programs that are designed to meet the unique cultural, language, and educational needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students and ensure that all students meet challenging State academic standards.
All applicants are required to develop proposed projects in open consultation, including through public hearings held to provide a full opportunity to understand the program and to offer recommendations regarding the program (ESEA section 6114(c)(3)(C)), with parents of Indian children and teachers of Indian children, representatives of Indian Tribes on Indian lands located within 50 miles of any school that the LEA will serve if such Tribes have any children in such school, Indian organizations, and, if appropriate, Indian students from secondary schools.
The Board meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on April 26, 2022 in the Santa Ana Unified School District Board Room located at 1601 E. Chestnut Avenue in Santa Ana.
