    COVID-19 Related Sick Leave Benefit

If an employee is subject to a quarantine or isolation period related to COVID-19, the employee may be entitled to COVID-19 related sick leave under the California 2021 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave.  This state mandated benefit expired on 09/30/21; however, the SAUSD school board approved an extension to this supplemental sick leave provisions (COVID-19 related sick leave/absence) for Covid-19 through June 30, 2022 for SAEA, CSEA and Saspoa union employees.

If an employee used Sick Leave (personal sick) for a COVID related illness, the absence can be changed to COVID-19 related sick leave if the employee has a balance.  Employees can email their timekeeper/payroll technician to request these changes.

This COVID-19 related sick leave is not taken from an employee's personal sick/vacation leave balance, unless the employee has already exhausted their COVID-19 related sick leave.  An employee must also report their COVID-19 sick leave/absence to the COVID Task Force over the FLAIRZ App, email, or phone.  The COVID Task Force will be able to determine if contact tracing is needed, depending on the reason the employee is requesting COVID-19 sick leave.  An employee may see their COVID-19 related sick leave balance through the Frontline application or by contacting their payroll technician.  See below for more information regarding this benefit, which was provided under the California 2021 COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave.
