Carolyn Torres is a proud Santanera and teacher. She was first elected to the Board of Education in 2019. Currently working in a 7th grade classroom, Carolyn has a Master’s in Education. She has dedicated her life to education, both inside schools and in her community. She has worked in public school systems for over 15 years. She has been a teacher for eight years of those years and previously she tutored and mentored students in afterschool programs. 

She has been an ethnic studies advocate since 6th grade when she couldn't find anything about her communities in her history textbook and had to find it herself. This desire for understanding sent her on her path as a community organizer and educator.  In her role as a School Board member, Carolyn helped pass the SAUSD Ethnic Studies high school requirement, the first requirement in Orange County.
