Coaching Staff
Head Coach, Theo Cortes
Coach Cortes is entering his 27th year coaching baseball at Century High School, 20th year as the head coach. He is a member of Century's first graduating class, class of 1992. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of San Diego. He graduated with honors in 1996, earning his B.A. and California teaching credential. In 1999, he received a Masters degree in education from Cal State San Bernardino. Currently, Coach Cortes teaches 9th grade World History at Century H.S.. He's been married to his wife Melissa for 23 years--has a son, Noah, and two daughters, Olivia and Faith.
Assistant Head Coach, Jeff West
Coach West has been a member of the Century baseball program for the past 15 years. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Irvine High School. Coach West attended and played baseball at Irvine Valley College. He continued his education at Cal State Long Beach, a B.A. degree in psychology, a teaching credential at Cal State Fullerton and a Masters in education from Grand Canyon University. He has been an instrumental part of the baseball program for the past 15 years; he first started at Century as the junior varsity baseball coach and quickly moved to his current position, assistant head coach. His primary baseball duties are to work with infielders and serve as the first base coach. He teaches math at Century H.S., and he's also the head girl's tennis coach. He is married to his wife Tracy; they have two young daughters, Kiley and Riley, and a son, Easton.
Hitting Coach, Luis Diaz
Coach Diaz is entering his 13th year as the hitting coach for the Centurions. During his tenure, the Century varsity baseball team has consistently been one of the best hitting teams of all the Santa Ana USD high schools and the Orange League. Coach Diaz played his high school baseball at Century for Coach Cortes and went on to break numerous baseball hitting records. He lettered both his junior and senior years, was honored as an All-Orange League performer in both of his varsity years. In his senior year, he was also selected for the All-CIF second team, division IV. Upon graduating high school, he went on and studied for 3 years at Cypress College while playing baseball under Coach Scott Pickler. He continued his baseball career at Texas A&M Kingsville, where he earned a B.A. in criminal justice. Currently, he is the head athletic grounds keeper at Cypress College, and hopefully, soon will be teaching Physical Education in our school district as he recently completed his student teaching. Coach Diaz is engaged to his fiancee, Carmen. He loves to play softball and go hiking in his spare time.
Assistant Coach, Ruben Galvan
Coach Galvan is entering his 14th year as an assistant varsity coach at Century. He is a wonderful role model to our student-athletes. His hard work, dedication, and commitment to doing things the right way is invaluable. Coach Galvan's son, Ruben Galvan, is a graduate of Century and lettered his senior year, 2010. Coach Galvan attended Mater Dei High School as a freshman and later transferred to Saddleback H.S., where he graduated in 1982. While attending Saddleback, he played two years of baseball. Coach Galvan is a life-long resident of Santa Ana and is now enjoying his retirement. He is a wonderful man who truly cares about the children in our community and wants them to be productive members of our society and become young men of integrity.
Freshmen Coach, Fausto Molina
Coach Molina is going into his 13th season as the freshmen coach at Century. His work on the development of the fundamental baseball skills for his players is imperative to the overall success of the baseball program. He often coaches players with limited baseball experience. With his guiding and nurturing approach, his players often become meaningful varsity players in subsequent years. Coach Molina is a graduate of UCLA and is currently a member of the English department at Century H.S. He is married and has two young daughters.
