Building Trades Readiness Program
The Building Trades Program/Pathway will introduce students to the skills and concepts of the Building and Construction Trades. Students participate in a hands-on curriculum which meets pre-apprenticeship requirements.
Students will make real world connections as they gain Trade and Union History, diversity awareness, understand workplace safety, read blueprints, introduction to green building practices, become tool proficient and create student-centered projects using multi trade construction practices.
This course of study exposes students to Building Trades Union Values and history. Students are introduced to each Building Trade Union and the crafts available in each of their trades. They get an intense look at the Labor Movement and understand how we got where we are. Students gain real world exposure by attending numerous field trips to Apprenticeship Training Schools and Construction projects. We also have great working relationships with Trade Representatives which visit the classroom and speak and mentor our students.
This program is backed by the North American Building Trades Union (LAOC Building Trades Council) and The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (The Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters). Students have the opportunity to earn industry Certifications from each of these Councils. Additionally students who complete this course of study will earn CPR/ First Aid and OSHA 10 Hour Construction Industry certifications. We are the only High School in Orange County offering North American Building Trades Union Multi Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) and certification. We are possibly the only School in our state and beyond offering certifications from both North American Building Trades Union and The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
