Course Description:
The Century Building Trades Program consists of a minimum two course Pathway. The Program is constantly under development and we hope to have extended opportunities in the near future.
Our Program is overseen by The North American Building Trade Union, The LA/OC Building Trades Council and The Southwest Brotherhood of Carpenters. Students will be able to earn Industry Certification with the completion of all program content .
The foundational course will introduce students to the skills and concepts of the building and construction trades. The Second Level course, allows students to gain knowledge of each Trade Union represented by The LA/OC Building Trades Council and The Southwest Brotherhood of Carpenters. Students participate in hands-on curriculum that meets pre-apprenticeship requirements.
Program Learning Objectives

5. Identify trade tools and materials.
6. Develop and apply basic skills for the trades.

8. Develop skills and understanding of Construction Math.
9. Develop knowledge of Blueprint Reading..
10. Develop an understanding of Financial Literacy.
Certification Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to earn:
- OSHA 10 Hour Construction Industry
- CPR/ First Aid
- North American Building Trades Unions- Multi Craft Core Curriculum (MC3)
- United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Careers Connections (Level1-3)
Expectations
Students are expected to:
- Demonstrate strong moral character.
- Be respectful of adults, classmates, and the classroom environment.
- Be responsible – come to class prepared with all materials.
- Effort is everything- Participate in all classroom assignments, activities, projects to your best abilities.
- Be a problem solver, think critically and try your best at all times.
- Be honest, polite, and maintain a positive attitude.
- Respect and take care of all school property.
- Be prompt to class.
- NO CELL PHONES, NO TEXTING, OR PERSONAL ELECTRONICS are allowed.
- Earphones, earbuds, etc. are not allowed.
- No food or drinks except water are allowed in the classroom.
- No gum chewing is allowed.
- PPE must be worn when working in the lab.
- Closed toe shoes are required daily. (No sandals, Crocs, slippers!)
- Come to class ready to work. This includes effort, proper work attire, and attitude.
Mini Biography:
Mr. Gonzalez was born and raised in Santa Ana. He attended Madison Elementary, Lathrop Jr. High School, and Saddleback High School. Mr. Gonzalez graduated from Chapman University with a BA, MA, and Teaching Credentials. He also has an AA degree in Welding Technology from Santa Ana College. He has been teaching for about 15 years. He has taught at various school districts in LA and Orange Counties. Courses taught include wood shop, metal shop, engineering, technology, design, construction, and science.
