First, let me start by saying that I am honored to be welcoming you into my VIRTUAL LEARNING CLASSROOM for the 2020-2021 school year.  While I know this year will have its challenges, we are also being presented with an amazing opportunity to learn and grow in ways that we otherwise would have never experienced.

I am eager to take on this incredible challenge with you all.  As I stated in my welcome above, we are a TEAM.  We are all in this together and if we come into this process with our minds on the ROAR, we will not only persevere, but we will come out of this stronger than ever before!

Now, to introduce myself:  My name is Kelly Stevens and I will either be your World History AP or Economics/Government teacher for this school year.  I’d like to share a few things about myself so that when you come into my virtual classroom you’ll have a little sense of what to expect.

First of all, I am a local girl.  I grew up in Garden Grove and graduated from Rancho Alamitos High School.  I completed my BA and MA at UCLA in World History and Critical Pedagogy, respectively.  I am a wife and mother, as well as an avid book reader and distance runner.  I love to travel and eat foods from all over the world.  I am also diehard for the Lakers and Dodgers.  Crossing my fingers for two championships this fall!

Over the years I have been blessed with many different teaching opportunities—AVID, US History, Sociology/Psychology, APEX, World History, Economics/Government, and Leadership.  I’ve also had the opportunity to teach at many different schools and within several districts throughout Southern California.  Each of these experiences has helped me grow as a teacher and helped me to understand the importance of quality education that is both rigorous and supportive of the whole student.

Rigorous and supportive education, that comprehensively nurtures the whole being, is central to the learning environment that we will strive to build this school year.  Relationships and connections have always been foundational to my classroom, but in these crazy times it is more important than ever that we reach out to one another and take time to build our community.  Please do not hesitate to e-mail me or send me a message on ParentSquare or Google Classroom if you have ANY questions, comments, concerns, and/or ideas.
