3rd period - Mariachi

    Mariachi explores the traditional music of Mexico and the cultural significance of mariachi music. Students will study the history of mariachi music and its evolution over time. Through performance opportunities, students will develop their skills in ensemble playing and learn to appreciate the teamwork and discipline required in mariachi music.

     

    Mariachi is a course that not only teaches musical skills but also fosters cultural understanding and appreciation, preparing students to become global citizens in an increasingly diverse world. Students will perform in concerts, the community, and in competitions. Students will also have opportunities to watch, perform, and learn from professional mariachis.

     

    **All skill levels are accepted. **

     

    Traditional instruments in this group:

    Voice, Violin, Trumpet, Vihuela, Guitar, and Guitarron

     

    Willing to add the following instruments:

    Flute and Viola

     

    Students are given a traje, a traditional Mexican type of apparel that is commonly seen in Mariachi groups. With these gorgeous embroidered suits, students are responsible for taking care of their clothing. 

     

    Additionally, some performances require students to find their own methods of transportation. Students often carpool to events with each other!
