SAUSD Graduation Requirements (Beginning 2008-09) To fulfill the requirements for a diploma from any day high school in the Santa Ana Unified School District, students must: (1) complete credits in the stipulated required curriculum; (2) perform at or above the identified proficiency levels as determined by state-prescribed tests in reading, mathematics, English grammar, and written composition; (3) achieve proficiency levels foe credits in elective courses for completion of the required credits for graduation (B.P. 5123(a) and E.C. 51225.3) Each pupil completing 12th grade will be required to successfully pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) as a condition of graduation. All students must meet the proficiency requirements in basic skills as set by the Santa Ana Board of Education as demonstrated in a 12th grade exit exam. This examination must be successfully passed in order to complete all necessary requirements for a high school diploma. In the simplest terms, all students must successfully complete three elements to meet the Santa Ana Unified School District’s class graduation requirements: (1) pass all required course requirements including 50 credits of electives; (2) achieve a minimum total of 220 credits; and, (3) successfully pass the California High School Exit Exam in English-language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Note: High School subject graduation requirements should not be confused with college entrance requirements.
