Reading is a huge part of success in school and life.  Please make sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes a day. 

Sixth graders are required to read at least 600,000 words by the end of the year.  That means they must read 60,000 words a month. 

How long is a book with 60,000 words?  To give you an idea, The Giver has roughly 50,000 words and is 180 pages; the first Harry Potter book is 77,000 words and roughly 220 pages; and Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief is 87,000 words and about 370 pages.

When your child meets these goals, he or she will have undoubtedly improved in Language Arts!
