AVID Student Profile
The AVID student is a student with academic potential:
- Above average-to-high test scores
- 2.0-3.5 GPA
- College potential with support
- Desire and determination
- Other circumstances that would necessitate additional support for a college path
The AVID placement process will include but not be limited to the above criteria, teacher recommendation, student application, and interview. The placement process for the 2018-2019 school year will begin January 2018.
The AVID Student
AVID targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college and many are from low-income or minority families. AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging courses and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
