About Ms. Van de Merghel

Thank you for visiting my page.  Hopefully, this means I will be teaching you or your child this year!  I teach English Language Arts, Speech and Debate, and I am the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Coordinator.  I have been teaching since 2004. I have a huge classroom library with nearly 3,000 books for students to choose from.  I love reading, teaching, and learning. I have taught first grade as well as grades four through nine in both Catholic and public schools in Santa Ana. I was chosen as the SAUSD Intermediate District-Wide Teacher of the Year in 2014-2015. I have a Multiple Subject Credential (to teach elementary school) as well as a Single Subject Credential in English (to teach English through high school). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development and a Master of Science degree in Education focusing on Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Staff Development. I am thrilled to teach English Language Arts as well as Speech and Debate.
