• Speech and Debate at MacArthur

Speech and Debate is the home of future leaders and entertainers.  Successful people know how to engage others through speech, and it is a skill that must be practiced before it is perfected.

Speech and Debate is an elective that empowers students and allows them to find their voices.  Students may perform a variety of different works including poetry, storytelling, speeches, and more.

If you are interested in competing for MacArthur (and your own personal glory!) contact Ms. Van de Merghel for more information!

You can also check out the SAUSD Speech and Debate Facebook page.

During the 20-21 school year, MacArthur had 22 students compete in 27 events in the California State Tournament.  We also had 12 students compete in 14 events for the National Speech and Debate Tournament!  Great job, team!
