• Reading is a huge part of success in school and life.  Please make sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes a day. 

    • Sixth graders are required to read at least 500,000 words by the end of the year.  That means they must read 50,000 words a month.  (To give you an idea of how long such a book would be, The Giver has roughly 50,000 words and is 180 pages.)  

     

    • Seventh graders must read at least 800,000 words this year.  That means they must read 80,000 words a month.  (To give you an idea of how long such a book would be: The first Harry Potter book is 77,000 words and roughly 220 pages, and Percy Jackson's The Lightning Thief is ~87,000 words and about 370 pages.) 

    When your child meets these goals, he or she will have undoubtedly improved in Language Arts!
