• Dear Families,

We are now in the 9th week of our school closure (10 if you count Spring Break).

The primary purpose of our distance learning is to have your child enter 1st grade feeling confident and ready as well as prevent learning loss.

Check Weeks 1 through 8 messages below about the closure if you want to go back to explore any of the Fairy Tales or other suggestions.  As always, please select what works best for you and your student.  Work in areas you know are enjoyable for your child or areas where practice is needed.  I can help you identify these areas if you feel unsure.  This week, our Fairy Tale is Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We have reached 89% completion as a class on our ST Math!  Nine certificates in Lexia have now been earned for leveling up in Lexia.  Leveling up on average is a two month process, so this is really great effort.

Please check my communications with you daily through ClassDojo for our Google Meet times because we have and additional meet time this week.

    April 6th -10th

    Dear Families,

We are now in the 4th week of our school closure.  I will continue to communicate with you daily through ClassDojo and enjoy the messages I get from students and parents alike.  Governor Newsom has issued an executive order regarding the physical closure of California Schools until the end of the current school year.  Every district has options about how to handle many issues during the closure.  SAUSD has not issued all policies for what our clousure looks at the time of my writing this, but we will proceed with our optional enrichment activities.  I will keep you updated and contact you about your child's academic levels and specific needs.  We can work together to have your child enter 1st Grade confidently.

I have a review of a basic schedule below if anyone has not read this from earlier weeks.  We will continue with a fairytale theme for each week.  Pick and choose what works best for you and your student.  This week we will be doing the Ugly Duckling.

To say this is a difficult for many time is a woefully sad understatement.  Many of our Santiago parents or people in their families are on the frontline helping us respond to COVID-19.  I know all of you have your own, unique and challenging situations.  SAUSD's priority of helping students receive meals will continue.  If you have a need beyond the student meals, please reach out to me and I will reach out to the people at our site or in our district that can hopefully help you to the extent that it is possible.  Parents and students alike, don't be afraid to reach out to your teachers.  We think about you so much more than you will ever know.  We miss being able to see you at school, but we are still here for you, just in a different way for now.

The goal is to have your child work in 4 or more of these suggested items per day to help retain their learning, learn new things, or spark creativity and curiousity.

Do what works for you and your family, but here is a schedule suggestion if you need ideas:

    1. Wake up and do your morning routine.

    2. Make the bed if you haven't already.

    3. Work in workbooks, practice site words, count to 100, and the read words you know in a book or read a book.

    4. Play outside if you are able or play Go Noodle (see helpful websites).

    5. Snack time

    6. Work on Lexia 15 to 20 min and ST Math 15 to 20 minutes.

If you have completed ST Math work on Splash Math or another fun Math sight

    7. Lunch

    8. Draw with ArtHub or other fun Art website and write a sentence to go with your drawing

Please check this webpage for daily and weekly assignments.

If you haven’t by now, you and your child can get started with the suggested Enrichment Packets provided by SAUSD.  New Enrichment Packets will be provided after Spring Break.  For those of you who would like extra enrichment, I have provided a week's worth of work through Fairy Tales and will continue messaging you through ClassDojo.

The District has them on-line on the District and Santiago Homepage.

You can print them out if you are able to, use the concept from the page with your child, or transfer the student part to paper.
