Welcome to AVID Excel!

Course Description: AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination. In this class we focus on the skills and behavior needed to make you a successful student and prepare you for college. The AVID Excel coursework accelerates students’ academic language acquisition and increases their access to the 9th grade AVID Elective and college preparatory courses. Some of the things we will focus on over the year will be:

• Academic Language
• Organization
• Note Taking
• Study Skills
• Being Academically Aware
• WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaborative Learning, Organization, and Reading)

As a student in AVID Excel, you will engage in Scholar Groups. Scholar groups will help you develop the necessary reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills you will need in all other content classes and beyond. Please see the steps of the Scholar Group Process below.
