Mr. Lindsay
Hey! I'm Mr. Lindsay, welcome to Room 209 at Villa Fundamental Intermediate School!
I teach 7th Grade Ancient World History and coach several sports here at Villa, including volleyball, basketball, co-ed hockey, and track & field.
As an educator, I am convinced that critical thinking and analysis are paramount and I hope that the students who enter my classroom will eventually leave with a more developed sense of these essential skills. By utilizing multiple perspectives in my pedagogy, I believe that history students can engage in sincere dialogue with both themselves and each other about our past. I also believe that it is a critical role of educators to make available the tools that students will need to become civic-minded adults and active participants in our democracy. Without a developed view of the past, I believe it is nearly impossible to create a sophisticated or even a realistic understanding of the present. I encourage my students to be independent and critical thinkers who act with integrity and are willing to challenge unjust authority. Some say that history repeats itself, others claim that it rhymes. However, what is ultimately true is that historical change over time was or is the product of human innovation, invention, creation, and sometimes by accident. Nothing in history is inevitable and by studying US history in depth, students learn that American democracy and its values are idealized. They are indeed never completely fulfilled and exist only because of our continued dedication to those ideals and our constant re-examination of them.
