    Student Eligibility

    • Student must be at least 16 years of age.

    • Student must have completed or be concurrently enrolled in a related CTE course.
    • Student must meet district/school guidelines for participation.

    Training Agreement

    A joint venture training agreement must be signed by school district and training site before students can be placed at site.

    A training agreement must be signed for every student at the training site.

    The training agreement is on the work permit application.

    Liability

    Work site liability is the responsibility of the respective school district in an unpaid experience.

    In paid work experiences, the student is hired by the employer. CA state law indicates that in such cases, students are considered regular employees and are covered by the employer's worker's compensation insurance.

    Training Plan

    An individualized training plan for each student is prepared and includes the following details:

    • Competencies to be acquired by the student.
    • Expected duration of training for each competency.
    • Identification of whether competencies will be taught in the classroom or on the job site.
    • Verification that the student has acquired the competency.

    The operational plan of the WEE program combines an on-the-job component with related classroom instruction designed to maximize the value of on-the-job experiences.

    Supervision

     

     

     

    Only a community classroom teacher who provides related classroom instruction can provide supervision.

    One visit to the training site is required every three weeks.
