Question: What is this renovation project about?
Answer: The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in the two-story building at Villa has not worked correctly for the last 20+ years. It is to be replaced. In addition, the entrance of the school will be modified to improve safety and provide a single point of entry.
Question: When will the project start and when will it be completed?
Answer: The project will start once school gets out in early June of 2023 and should be completed prior to the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
Question: Why is this happening now?
Answer: This is an extensive and expensive project. Currently funding is available. If it is not used, the funding will become unavailable, which will result in continued unfavorable hot learning conditions for our students.
Question: Where will Villa students attend school?
Answer: 6th grade students will attend school at the Villa campus in the 300 and 400 buildings.
7th grade students will attend school at the Circulos High School campus.
8th grade students will attend school at the Century High School campus.
Question: Is relocating to Circulos and Century the best option?
Answer: Many other options were carefully considered prior to a decision being made. The Circulos/Century option emerged as the most viable.
Question: Will students still be Villa students?
Answer: Students at all three campuses will remain Villa students taught by Villa teachers and supported by Villa staff and administrators.
Question: Will students with IEPs and 504 plans still receive services?
Answer: Yes, students with IEPs and 504 plans will continue to receive services and accommodations.
Question: Will Villa students interact with high school students?
Answer: Villa students will take classes with Villa teachers in classrooms located in one area of each host school’s campus. Villa students will have their own lunchtime. Teachers, staff, and administrators will supervise students throughout the day to ensure that they are appropriately supported and cared for.
Question: Will transportation be provided for 7th and 8th-grade students?
Answer: Yes! Parents will be able to drop off students at the Villa campus to ride the bus to Circulos High School and Century High School in the morning. Students will also be provided transportation back to Villa in the afternoon.
Question: If my 7th or 8th-grade student lives close to the high school, will they be required to go to Villa first and take the bus to the high school?
Answer: No. Parents may choose to have their students walk to school or to be picked up/dropped off directly at the high school.
Question: Will 7th and 8th-grade students be able to participate in the Engage 360 after school program?
Answer: Yes! 7th and 8th-grade students will be provided transportation back to Villa in the afternoon to participate in Engage 360.
Question: Will 7th and 8th-grade students be able to participate in athletics?
Answer: Yes! 7th and 8th-grade students will be provided transportation back to Villa in the afternoon to participate in athletics.
Question: Will 7th and 8th-grade students participate in high school events?
Answer: No, Villa students will be able to bus back to the Villa campus to participate in its own events.
Question: Will Villa still offer dances and other events related to school culture?
Answer: Yes! Villa will continue to offer activities and events to its 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students.
Question: Will there be an orientation for 7th and 8th-grade students and their parents/guardians?
Answer: Yes! We will host an orientation as well as tours at each campus.
Question: Will Villa students have their own restrooms?
Answer: Yes, Villa students will have their own restrooms to use at each campus.
Question: Will office staff be available at each campus?
Answer: Yes, Villa office staff will be available at each campus. Contact information will be made available prior to the start of the school year. Until then, please continue to contact our main office at the Villa campus.
Question: Will 7th and 8th grade students be required to wear the uniform during the 2023-2024 school year?
Answer: 7th grade students will be required to wear the Villa uniform. 8th grade students will not be required to wear the Villa uniform. 8th grade students will be required to follow the SAUSD dress code for students.
Question: Will 7th and 8th grade students have lockers and dress for PE?
Answer: No. 7th and 8th grade students will not use the locker room, and they will not change for PE. PE teachers will design activities with this in mind and offer students choice whenever plausible.
