Course Overview
IB Math SL is a 2-year course that is part of the IB Diploma Program. During Year 1, we will be covering four math topics: Algebra, Functions, Geometry and Trigonometry, and Calculus. During Year 2, we will cover Statistics and Probability, Geometry and Trigonometry, and Calculus. You will also be writing a 12-20 page paper on an exploration of a math topic of your choice. At the end of year 2 you will also sit for two end-of-course IB exams.
Classroom Expectations
Within our math classroom, I expect students to:
1. Arrive on time and ready to learn.
2. Have all materials out on their desk and ready for class.
3. Be respectful when the teacher or a fellow classmate is talking.
4. Always try their best and ask questions.
5. Follow my cell phone policy.
Supplies for class
Each student is expected to bring the following to class:
● 3-ring binder for math notes ● Loose Leaf Lined and Graph paper
● Agenda ● Pencil and eraser - No work will be accepted in pen!
● Pen - To write your name and title of the assignment ● Texas Instruments TI-Nspire or TI-84+ or TI-83
● Colored Pens/highlighters (optional) (provided)
Grading Policy
Each student’s class grade is based upon a variety of in-class activities, homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and a final exam.
Homework will be posted in Google classroom. All homework is due the next day for full credit (10). However, I will accept homework until the end of the week on Friday by 3:22pm for a 1-point deduction. I will deduct 1-point for each additional week that it is late. Once we take a unit test, I will no longer accept any work from that unit. If you have questions, please ask! Students are encouraged to work together on their homework assignments, but all work must be each individual student’s work. No copied homework will be accepted! All work is expected to be organized and easy to read. Label each assignment, in pen, with your name, the date and title, so it is easy to identify. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to check Google classroom for any missed lessons or assignments.
If a student is absent for a chapter test, a make-up test will be given within two days after their return, during after school office hours. Contact your teacher to schedule the appointment. No make-up quizzes (your corresponding unit test score will replace any missing unit test).
Academic Honesty
All classwork, homework, projects, quizzes, tests, and final exams must be completed to the best of your ability. Although this is a tough class, please make sure that the pressure of this class does not force you into behavior of academic dishonesty. If behavior of academic dishonesty occurs, your teacher will contact the Assistant Principal and will have a conference with your parent/guardian.
