Santiago Speech & Debate Team On A Roll!
    speech-debate tourn2

Once again our students from grades 5-8 in our Speech & Debate team competed in the Fall Classic Speech & Debate tournament held on Nov. 2nd at Century High School. According to Mrs. Venturelli, our team went into this 2nd competition with more confidence than the first tournament because they were more prepared and knew what to expect. We congratulate Alexa Prado from the 5th grade for being a semi-finalist.  We also congratulate Alex Pantone in the 6th grade, Travis Prough in the 7th grade and Tony Pantone in the 8th grade for making it into the finals. Ariana Ramirez in the 6th grade is the champion in the  "Informative & Declamation" competition. Also, Santiago school took First Place in “Small Schools Sweepstakes”. Congratulations to all the students who competed for their great effort and a job well done! Way to go Turtles!!

Santiago School Intermediate Band Collaborating with High School Bands

The Santiago Intermediate Band collaborated this fall with the Marching Bands from Godinez and Santa Ana High Schools. Santiago participated in "Middle School Band Night" with Godinez HS at their football game on October 11th, and did the same event with Santa Ana's Marching Saints on October 18th. Both nights were a recruitment/bridge-building experience to get a sneak peek of what high school life is like continuing in-band and arts education.

Santiago BandOur Santiago students practiced and learned the music with the high school students, while building new friendship/relationships, and then got a chance to march with the high school bands, perform the Star-Spangled Banner on the field during pregame, and then play pep music in the stands all night long! Both nights were incredibly successful, a lot of fun, and truly motivational, with "hands-on, real-life experience," of high school band life. Great job Turtles!!

Intermediate Italian Street Painting Return to Santiago
    street_painting2019.GIF
A fantastic day of Italian Street Art painting was brought to Santiago by our PTA and Lorelle Miller of the Segerstrom Arts Teach Program. Students worked with soft pastels in a tradition originating in Italy in the 16th century. They even coordinated classroom lessons about Japan, world science and Edgar Allen Poe into their Art today, in addition to some freestyle projects. It was challenging and messy, but FUN! Thank you, PTA for your continued support of arts education here at Santiago! To see more go to the PTA website.

    All for A Great Cause!

    jog-a-thon2019

Jog-a-Thon was a fun and exciting day for all our students. The weather was great and our superheroes had a wonderful time running laps with their classmates and teachers. It was nice to see many parent volunteers helping count laps at the event. Our PTA provided school-wide popsicle treats which our students enjoyed after running. Thanks to everyone who supported our Jog-a-Thon fundraiser event! We hope to meet our goal! Please note that all jog-a-thon donations are due no later than Nov. 8th.
