AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.
In simple terms, this means YOU are the one that can make your dreams come true. AVID is an elective class for students who need some extra support getting ready to be successful in high school and who have the goal of attending college.
It is a college readiness system as well. It is designed to help students in the middle prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. AVID is offered in approximately 4,800 elementary, middle and high schools in 48 states and 16 countries/territories.
AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges.
The research found that 87 percent of AVID graduates enrolled in a second year of college, compared to 77 percent of students overall.
