💻 LRCA Coding & Engineering Pathway

    CODE. ENGINEER. INNOVATE. INSPIRE.

At Lydia Romero-Cruz Academy, our Coding & Engineering Pathway prepares students to become the next generation of problem-solvers, innovators, and creators. Rooted in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum, our two-year middle school program provides hands-on, real-world experiences in computer science, design, and robotics.

🛠️ Year 1: Foundations in Computer Science

🔹 Computer Science for Innovators and Makers (PLTW)
Students bring code to life by using sensors and actuators to build systems that interact with their environment. They create wearable tech, interactive art, and mechanical solutions while learning foundational programming skills.

    🔹 App Creators (PLTW)
This course introduces mobile app development, user interface design, and computational thinking. Students create apps that address real-world challenges and explore the role of computer science in fields like biomedical science.

    🔧 Year 2: Engineering & Robotics

    🔹 Design & Modeling (PLTW)
Students apply the design process to create sketches, build models, and design a toy or game for a child with cerebral palsy. This unit builds empathy, teamwork, and innovation as students learn to fabricate and optimize their designs.

    🔹 Automation & Robotics (PLTW)
Students explore the world of robotics by building and automating mechanical systems using input and output devices. Working as engineers, they design robotic prototypes that solve real-world problems.

    🎓 High School Continuation

LRCA students are well-prepared to pursue advanced coursework at the high school level, including:

    • Exploring Computer Science

    • Introduction to Engineering Design (PLTW)

    • Principles of Engineering (PLTW)

    • AP Computer Science

    🔍 Why It Matters

Our Coding & Engineering Pathway not only builds technical skills but also nurtures creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking—key competencies in a global, tech-driven world.
