    Library Use:
Students may use the Library before and after school, during class visits, or individually with student ID and a signed orange hall pass from their teacher during a class period if space and scheduling permit. Classroom teacher phones for availabilty before sending students with hall passes.

Individually, a signed hall pass is required from Period 1 until the end of school including student's lunch.

See How to Check Student's Book Record  library page to check student's account at any time.

    Checking out materials

    1. A separate library card is not needed. Take a book to circulation desk. If it is crowded at the desk, form a line along the counter. A valid Student ID card is required for check out, except for No ID books.
    2. Books are checked out for 2 weeks and may be renewed.
    3. Nooks are available for a 2 week check out. E-reader contract needs to be signed in order to check out Nooks.
    4. Three books may be checked out at any given time.
    5.  A student must not owe fines or have lost library or textbooks from any SAUSD school to have the priviledge of checking out materials. In case of serious financial hardship, arrangements may be made for the student to work for the charges. See Library staff for details.
    6. In many cases, charges and/or books may be paid or returned to SAHS even when they are from another district school.

    Returning Materials

Library books should be returned through the book return slot in the front of the circulation desk. Do not lay the books on the circulation desk or any place else in the library and leave them. If you finish a book before it is due or decide you made a poor choice, return the book immediately to the book return slot.

    Nooks:

An e-reader, e.g. Kindle, Nook, etc., is a convenient, portable reading device. The size of a paperback it can hold a vast number of books. Users can highlight passages, take notes, and look up words in the dictionary. Santa Ana High School Library has acquired e-readers for student use. Student use is a PRIVILEGE. Students are expected to show extra caution and responsibility. Nooks, plus accessories cost approximately $150, and Nook Colors, plus accessories cost approximately $225. For this reason, parental permission is required before an e-reader can be checked out to a student.

They can be checked out for two weeks just like books and renewed once.

    Overdue Books, Fines, Etc.

Due dates are printed on book receipts and given at the time of book check out .  Be sure to keep track of the day. You may renew the book if there with or without the book itself being present. Fines are given when books are damaged or lost.

REMEMBER: Books are checked out or renewed for two school attendance weeks.
Financial difficulties need to be directly addressed with Library staff.
