    Mrs. Amy Scruton, Principal

Advanced Learning Academy opened in 2015 as a SAUSD School of Choice. Our focus is to prepare students to be Future Ready, which means learning 21st Century skills such as Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creativity.

We are a small school that prides ourselves on building community within our classrooms. We start off each day in our mentoring groups where we engage in developing social-emotional skills and fostering interpersonal communication using the Second Step curriculum to build competency in the areas of self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.

We use a competency-based instructional model, which means our classes are mixed grade levels. Students are grouped depending on their personalized learning needs. Each of our students is issued a Chromebook that they can take home each night. Everywhere, anytime learning allows our students to interact with our teachers and the course content, both at school and at home.

We are pleased to announce that beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, we will continue to support student learning through a blended learning K-12 instructional model that is comprised of both online and in-person learning.

Our teachers engage in project-based learning where students get the opportunity to learn about topics that are interesting to them. We regularly engage in multimedia presentations to demonstrate learning and collaborate with peers and teachers.

We offer several different elective pathways, including VAPA- Speech and Debate, Project Lead the Way- Robotics, Makerspace, App Creator, Femineers, and academic electives- such as AVID and Leadership. We also have intramural sports in grades 6-8, which means we compete against the other SAUSD intermediate schools in girls and boys Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer.

In addition, we have an extended learning program, Engage 360, that provides after school programming until 5:45 pm.

We are a SAUSD Dependent Charter School, so we do not require interdistrict transfer permits. Please see our Admissions tab at the top for enrollment forms.
