Welcome to Glenn L. Martin Elementary School!
Welcome to Glenn L. Martin Elementary School. As the principal at Martin, my goal is to work with our school staff and our community to provide a high quality education for all students. At Martin, we truly believe that ALL Martin students CAN and WILL learn. During the 2020-21 school year, we are beginning the year with a remote teaching and learning model that will allow all of our students and staff members to remain safe as we navigate the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. All classes will be conducted on-line, until further notice. We will keep in constant contact with parents through ParentSquare and other platforms, to update you regarding our efforts and plans during the year.
Our focus at Martin during the 2020-21 school year is twofold:
1) Provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for all of our students. The "Martin Way" is to be respectful, responsible, and safe! We are practicing the skills of good citizenship, including when we are learning remotely.
2) Prepare every student for college and career by helping them develop their English language skills within the context of reading, writing, math, science, social studies and physical education. We are teaching our students to reach the rigorous Common Core State Standards. Our slogan is "Analyze it. Claim it. Prove it.", which speaks to our need to think deeply about topics and find evidence to support our claims about all of our topics of study.
Our motto is a quote from a former teacher, Marilyn Powell Berns, “Go Forth and Achieve.“ She is a teacher and friend who had high expectations for herself, her students, her friends and her family. We want all Martin students to “Go Forth and Achieve” in college, career, and personal life. We work toward this motto by providing quality, standards-based instruction to all students.
I am extremely privileged to serve at Martin. Our staff, students, families, and community at Martin make this school a special place. Our staff members are caring, hard-working and want each child to succeed. Our parents are very supportive and actively help with many activities throughout the school. By working together we will make a difference in the lives of each and every student who walks through our doors. Every student will learn; every student will grow; every student will work to move up to "the next level" individually as we collectively work to improve as a school.
I want to thank our business partners and district office personnel for their assistance and guidance. Our business partners include: St. Mark Presbyterian Church, Orange Canaan Presbyterian Church, Oasis International, Girls on the Run, De Aquellas Car Club, Healthy Tomorrows, La Cigueña, Pronto Pizza, MIND Institute, Engage 360, Early Childhood Education Programs and University of California, Irvine.
