Ms. Dougherty
My name is Maureen Dougherty. I have lived in California most of my life. I grew up in Manhattan Beach with my mom and dad, my 2 brothers and my sister. I moved away to go to college. I received my Bachelors of Science in education (Cum Laude) from Framingham State College in Massachusetts. I moved back to California and began teaching at York Elementary School in Hawthorne. From there, I taught kindergarten at Adams School in Costa Mesa. Eventually I moved to teaching in Santa Ana, in 1997. I began at Jefferson as a 2nd grade teacher for 2 years, then moved classes and taught 4th grade for 11 years and 5th grade for 6 years. This will be my 3rd year as a 2nd grade teacher. Eventually I got my Masters Degree in Education with a specialization in reading from National University in October 2007. It was hard work, but well worth it.
I live in Huntington Beach with my 2 cats, Rembrandt and Frida. They are named after artists. About 10 years ago I added to my family and adopted Gaby. The adoption was final in July of 2011. She is now attending school in Huntington Beach which is closer to our house. Gaby went to Arrowhead Ranch in March 2015. Since I love camp and all the great activities we do up there, I was thrilled that she went there too.
Gaby and I are enjoying traveling. We went on a drive up the California coast to Sacramento in June of 2011, to Hawaii in December of 2011, and just recently to the Bahamas on a Disney cruise in July 2012. We went to Boston in Summer of 2013 to visit our relatives and do some tourist activities related to the American Revolution. It was a great trip and Gaby met 2 of our uncles that she hadn't met yet. I am glad we went because those 2 uncle passed away in October and December 2013. Boston is a great place.
Gaby and I enjoy going to the Anaheim Ducks games. You can't help but notice many Ducks references in the classroom.
