“Work now, Play later!”
Welcome to the Taft Elementary, Taft Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) School website. We are part of the Santa Ana Unified School District serving families throughout the city of Santa Ana. We also serve DHH students from eight local school districts throughout the Orange County area. Our school staff numbers over 100 adults including professional and support staff. Our student population includes students in early start, preschool, transitional kindergarten, as well as kindergarten through the sixth grade. We offer programs for learning support and academic enrichment and have one of the largest programs of specialized classes for students with special needs.
Here, at Taft Elementary School, we strive to provide the best educational experience possible for your child. The curriculum is rigorous and the standards high. Our community has a strong commitment to excellence in education, which is reflected by the quality curricular and co-curricular programs and activities at Taft School. Our teachers are highly qualified professionals committed to excellence in education, and they teach to the best of their ability every day, guiding your child on a path that will give him/her the skills necessary for a productive future in college or career after high school. Due to the presence of the DHH program, we now provide sign language instruction to all students and families so that our students can become multilingual.
We emphasize comprehensive literacy strategies throughout all classrooms, and our dedicated staff will build on your child’s current skills to help him/her develop the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to be successful in school and in life.
Our staff is specifically trained in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), and we have highly trained special education teachers serving our students with special needs. Additionally, we have a Fun Fitness Friday program and a Fit to Read Lab that promotes fitness programs for all grades with an emphasis on health and wellness while achieving academically. The Fit to Read Lab includes 40 stationary bicycles on campus for student and staff use. Other programs offered include an instrumental music program that includes band, orchestra, and choir, and an outstanding student leadership club led by our oldest students.
We are also fortunate to work in collaboration with our wonderful parents who offer tremendous support to our learning environment. Our school benefits from an active PTA, which sponsors school programs, chaperones class field trips, assists in extra curricular activities, and takes an active role in the education of all children. In addition, our parents have access to our recently renovated library and digital learning center that is equipped with technology devices, parenting resource material, and a learning center for parent use. We are also very fortunate as we have an awesome partnership with the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center that provides all of our scholars’ access to the arts.
With a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.), we are very proud of the accomplishments of our students and school. We encourage you to visit the school to see for yourself why our teachers, parents, and students make Taft School a great place to learn and grow. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I welcome you to Taft School. We thank you for visiting our website, and are glad to have a chance to tell you about our school.
