News from ParentSquare
WELCOME TO 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
Mr. Jimmy Bruhl, School Principal
Dear Carver Families & Wonderful Santa Ana Community,
First and foremost, I am deeply grateful for your commitment and determination to remain positive last school year. Together, we have shared new responsibilities we never imagined in our careers and within our personal households. We witnessed parents share teacher responsibilities, teachers parenting at home while teaching students online, students interacting with students on Zoom and Google Meet, virtual fieldtrips, and virtual meetings. Regardless the circumstance, the difficult times has made us a stronger community.
As our teachers and support staff prepare for their return for in-person instruction, we will dedicate our time to continue Carver’s collaborative success by sustaining and building upon its Culture and Climate, while adding a Human Element to everything we do.
As we re-open our classroom doors, our school focus will be to ensure a safe re-opening of Carver Elementary School. I will be committed to ensure that we:
- Provide the highest quality learning experiences for all students.
- Support the individual needs of all students and families.
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of all students and staff.
- Provide clear communication throughout all transitions to stakeholders.
As you all enjoy your final Summer days, I would like to highlight some items to your attention:
- Our school re-modernization is now complete. All classrooms have been upgraded and equipped with up to date technology.
- All portable classrooms have been removed and the main student playground has been expanded with the addition of a synthetic field.
- The Kindergarten yard has been beautified with the addition of a synthetic field and fencing.
- New trees and hedges have been added to the both the main field and kindergarten yard.
- Drinking fountains have been upgraded to allow for water bottle re-filling
- All classrooms and common areas are equipped with hand sanitizing stations
Environmental Literacy at Carver
This school year, we are beginning our first phase of implementing a strong focus on Environmental Literacy. A team of Carver teachers have trained over the summer break with Project Lead the Way “PLTW” as part of our program launch. PLTW takes Science to a different level, providing students with more opportunities to learn how to solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate, and collaborate. Our partnership with SAUSD Career Technical Education program “CTE” provides us with ongoing teacher training and student support.
Additional Staff Hiring
Carver Elementary welcomes new staff members this year that will help us transition back into a physical setting. Positions that have been added are to increase student academic and social emotional support. In addition, our Engage 360° Site Coordinator and Family and Community Engagement representative “F.A.C.E”, are now full time at Carver as a means to strengthen our support to families.
As your school community leader, it is important to me that everyone involved feel connected, welcomed, and excited to be at Carver! These feelings will enable us to continuously grow social emotionally and academically. I look forward to see you all this year!
