    Santa Ana Unified School District

Welcome to Taft Elementary, Taft Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) School website.  We are part of the Santa Ana Unified School District serving families throughout the city of Santa Ana.  We also serve DHH students from eight local school districts throughout the Orange County area. Our school staff numbers over 100 adults including professional and support staff.  Taft Elementary School is located at the corner of West Keller Avenue and Pasteur Street.

We are comprised of unique and talented students alongside a highly competent staff, working hand-in-hand with parents and outside resources. School staff are committed every day to celebrating the uniqueness of each individual and guiding each child to fulfill his or her true potential.

Taft Elementary not only strives to educate general education students, but we also have the honor to educate students with special needs that have an IFSP {Individualized Family Service Plan) and/or an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). Our student population includes students in early start, preschool, transitional kindergarten, as well as kindergarten through the sixth grade. We offer programs for learning support and academic enrichment and have one of the largest programs of specialized classes for students with special needs. Taft Elementary also includes the regionalized deaf and hard of hearing program for Orange County, where we educate students within the DHH program from Early Start to 6th grade.

Here at Taft Elementary School, we strive to provide the best educational experience possible for our children.  The curriculum is rigorous and the standards are high.  Our community has a strong commitment to excellence in education, which is reflected by the quality of curricular and co-curricular programs and activities at Taft School. Our teachers are highly qualified professionals committed to excellence in education, and they teach to the best of their ability every day, guiding your child on a path that will give him/her the skills necessary for a productive future in college or career after high school.  In addition, having the presence of the DHH program on campus, we also provide sign language instruction to all students and families so that our students can become multilingual.

We emphasize comprehensive literacy strategies throughout all classrooms, and our dedicated staff will build on your child’s current skills to help him/her develop the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to be successful in school and in life. Our teachers are trained in AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies, Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), Thinking Maps, and have training in best practices for serving our students with special needs.

We are also fortunate to work in collaboration with our wonderful parents, who offer tremendous support to our learning environment.  Our school benefits from an active PTA, which sponsors school programs, chaperones class field trips, assists in extra-curricular activities, and takes an active role in the education of all children. In addition, our parents have access to our recently renovated library and digital learning center that is equipped with technology devices, parenting resource equipment, and a learning center for parent use.

We encourage you to visit the school to see for yourself why our teachers, parents, and students make Taft School a great place to learn and grow.  On behalf of the faculty and staff, we welcome you to Taft School. We thank you for visiting our website, and are glad to have a chance to tell you about our school.
