Accelerated Reader guides students by providing authentic reading comprehension practice with engaging online quizzes. Students choose books at their reading comprehension levels to read and then take a quiz. Students should pass these quizzes with 70% or above accuracy. Each trimester, students should earn 10 points for a total of 30 points for the year. If weekly requirements are not met, additional recess reading time may be given individually as needed. A.R. test scores are part of the effort grade on the report card. Students that read 175,000 words or more will be invited to a 2nd grade celebration at the end of the year! Lexia is a structured program to reinforce literacy skills in reading, writing, and speaking. The 2nd-grade levels of this program are 10, 11, and 12. Although some children may need to review skills from Kindergarten or 1st grade, our goal is for them to master the skills at the 2nd grade level.  Students are expected to complete 12 units per week for homework.
