SAUSD Arts provides pathways to sustainable careers in the Arts
Did you know? A sustainable future in the arts is a realistic career choice for Southern California residents. According to the Otis Report on the Creative Economy, on average people with jobs in the arts make higher wages than all workers combined in the LA and OC regions (See Graph Below). These career paths include, but are not limited to, jobs in the following sectors:
- Architecture
- Creative Goods & Products
- Fine & Performing Arts
- Fashion
- Entertainment

At SAUSD, we're creating pipelines of success for students to enjoy a lifelong passion for the arts and realistically pursue an arts career. To achieve this goal, we have a multi-year Strategic Arts Plan with measurable steps and full alignment with our district's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). SAUSD Arts Data and Research
As part of our Strategic Arts Plan, our district is expanding Arts opportunities at every level so all students can develop their creative and academic potential. Check out what we've accomplished in just a few years!
Arts for All: TK-3
In three years, SAUSD Arts increase Arts engagement for TK-3 students by 92%. Now, we have creative opportunities for all students in this age range.
Music for All: Gr. 4-6
SAUSD Arts has steadily expanded their music teaching team and is now providing weekly music instruction for all students Grades 4-6.
Access for All: Gr. 7-9
In 2022 SAUSD Arts grew its secondary course offerings to 7/8 arts courses in 5 arts disciplines. There is a lot of exciting momentum for the arts at this grade level.
Growth at All Sites: 10-12
Post pandemic, we are creating exponential growth for the arts at all school sties. Looking beyond the classroom, we are increasing our reach within the community to downtown arts communities and industries. We're opening discussions for student choice and voice as we expand to provide healing-centered arts options for all.
