School Pride

In the late 1940's, Mr. Carl Harvey, an assistant Superintendent of the Santa Ana School District, along with the Spastic Children's Foundation, brought to the school board's attention that there was a need for a school for children with disabilities.

As a result, Carl Harvey School was established and dedicated to the memory of Mr. Carl Harvey on Friday, April 2, 1948.

The school's focus was to serve Santa Ana children of preschool through high school age with physical disabilities.  Carl Harvey School was unique to the Orange County area and quickly began providing education as well as physical, occupational and speech therapy to children through out the  Orange County area.  Carl Harvey School was located on 4th Street near Grand Avenue in Santa Ana, and remained there until the earthquake of 1971 caused the school to be uninhabitable.

After the earthquake, the school was rebuilt at the present site at 1635 S. Center Street.  It was specifically designed to meet the needs of handicapped students. It's unique location between Carr Intermediate School and Valley High School provided the opportunity for the present philosophy:  Educational Collaboration. This philosophy allowed students from Carl Harvey School to participate in standard educational classes at Carr Intermediate and Valley High Schools. In the 1993-94 school year, Carl Harvey School became a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school serving both regular education and special education students.

 

Today we continue the proud tradition of providing a high quality education to all students.
