Principal's Note

Dear Visitors,

Welcome to the 2012-13 school year and welcome to the Century High School website.

This year we have worked together to implement many positive changes to support our students' success at Century High School.  As part of our school transformation, we have focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM)  to prepare Century students with excellent academic opportunities that will lead to college and career preparation in high need industries.

The 2012 school year will introduce two new  career academies to add to special program.    Our new academies are Digital and Media Arts Academy and the Academy of Engineering.   We will continue to offer our E-Business and TEACH Academies.

The Visual and Performing Arts department will offer additional opportunities for performances through the development of a "7th period" production course.  This course will allow our students from drama, play production, dance, instrumental music and choir  to work together as an extra elective.

Our new high tech building was completed this past December, and students and teachers have access to the excellent facilities to learn in technology integrated instruction and support.  Math, Social Sciences, Special Education, and Foreign Language classes are housed in the new building.

In addition, we have updated all of our computer labs, our video production room, and will open a new Paxton Patterson Career Plus STEM Computer Lab, to introduce and increase STEM literacy for all Century students.

Our teachers, support staff and administrators have undergone many hours of additional training to meet the needs of all students and to integrate the new technology into the classrooms of all subject areas.   Our teachers are using a computerized grade book to provide you, the parent /guardian, with up to date attendance, assignment and grade information.  Our counseling and higher education center ensures that our students and parents are informed and understand graduation requirements.

Parent and community involvement is crucial, even in high school.  We have opened  a new Parent and Community Center to provide services and resources  for our students and their parents.  We are beginning work to build an Academy Advisory Board to help us in our work to offer mentorship and internships for our students.

I invite you to join us for academic competitions, plays, concerts, athletic competitions, and student recognition events.  Please join us and become active in the Century PTSA, the School Site Council and/or the English Language Advisory Committee.

Be sure to visit our website to learn of the many ways we will renew our school to meet the needs of the 21st Century Centurions!

Sincerely,

Lucinda Nares Pueblos
Principal

To help prepare Century High School students for college and careers of the future, Century has two new Academies. The Digital Media and Arts Academy integrates 21st Century skills into student's standard based core curriculum using Art and Digital Media themes. The Engineering Design Academy will help develop student's academic skills in engineering and science while they develop their technical skills to better prepare students for 21st century careers and jobs. Century High School has implemented a new class that will be the foundation for the Engineering Design Academy using Paxton Patterson Careers Plus Lab. This class introduces students to  7 different areas: Robotics and Automation, Materials Science, Alternative Energy, Environmental Technology, Architecture and Construction.   slide show
