Welcome to Independent Studies Program!
During my seven years as an administrator, I have especially enjoyed being a part of the Educational Options community. The Educational Options in Santa Ana Unified School District consist of the following sites: César E. Chávez High School, REACH Academy, Independent Study Program, and Lorin Griset Academy. We enjoy a history of success that is the result of a collegial partnership among the school staff, parents, and community members who together provide wonderful opportunities and experiences for all students.
Independent Study Program, a part of our Educational Options community, has approximately 168 students, 8 teachers, 2 certificated and 1 classified support staff member including a site assistant principal. We offer students the opportunity to complete their high school requirements in a personalized setting with individualized opportunities in a smaller learning environment. We nurture mutual respect and guide each student to respect themselves, adults, peers, and their community. We challenge every student to do their best, and be their best. Students soon discover that becoming a member of Educational Options is as unique as they are.
Even though students enrolling in our Educational Options programs face obstacles in their lives, we provide instructional opportunities to meet the needs of all students. Independent Study Program’s staff strives to offer an academically rigorous learning environment, to engage each student by linking the curriculum to previous knowledge and experiences, and to promote and encourage further exploration of new ideas. Parents, teachers, support staff, community members, and administration all play an important role in inciting our children to become active learners. It is our genuine desire to provide growing opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society. We pride ourselves in creating an individualized graduation plan for each student. This is designed to afford students the option of returning to their comprehensive intermediate/high school or graduating from Independent Study Program, all the while preparing them to be ready for college and the world of work.
