Principal's Message

July 25, 2015

Dear Parents and Staff:

I am thrilled to serve as the new principal of George Washington Elementary School for the upcoming 2015-16 school year.  It is a sincere pleasure and honor to become a member of this great school community.  I am excited to continue the mission of the school as well as build on the success of George Washington Elementary School.  I am looking forward to collaborating with the Santa Ana Unified School District and our school community to ensure that we are successful in preparing our students for the future.

Over the last 19 years, I’ve had the privilege of holding various roles in education.  I began my career as an educator at James Lick Middle School in San Francisco as the 8th grade language arts and social studies teacher for the Spanish Immersion program.  I transitioned to teaching 3rd grade Spanish Immersion at El Sol Science and Arts Academy in Santa Ana, and took on the responsibility of developing the school-wide technology implementation program.  Shortly after, I served as a founding member of the Orange County Educational Arts Academy and continued my role as a teacher, technology coordinator, and vice principal during my tenure.  My career continued as principal of the Los Angeles Academy of Arts and Enterprise in downtown Los Angeles, and over the last three years, has concluded as the principal at Monroe Elementary School in San Francisco.

My goal for this coming school year is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that will meet the needs of our students, and to continue to foster the goal of creating critical thinkers, life long learners, technology innovators and responsible global citizens.  I will continue to focus my efforts on equity and social justice as well as promoting the idea that every person on campus is an educator within the school community.

Serving as principal of George Washington Elementary School is as great an honor as it is a responsibility.  It is my sincere desire to see every student succeed.  I believe that the foundation of our future accomplishments will be found in the power of our combined efforts and through the strength of our synergy.  I look forward to working with our teachers to continue creating dynamic learning environments where each student will be challenged to reach their highest potential.

I am so happy to be coming home to SAUSD, and I'm eager to begin this journey with all of you and to have an opportunity to meet you all very soon.

Sincerely,

Atentamente,

José Montaño, Director
