Principal's Note

Century High School

1989 - 2014
Silver Anniversary
Century High School – Commitment-Honor- Success!
CHS, the Century High School initials represent three words that fully describe our school and our tradition at Century High School - Commitment * Honor * Success.  Century has a proud history, having been recognized as the “New  Technology High School”  when it opened its doors twenty-five years ago in 1989, and being named a California Distinguished School shortly thereafter in 1994. As we plan to celebrate the opening of CHS at our twenty- fifth anniversary in the fall of 2014, it is appropriate that now in 2013, we continue to focus on our vision to prepare Century  students with the 21st century skills students need as you graduate and enter college and the workforce as adults.

Century HS is well on its way in preparing and working toward the new Common Core State Standards.  Teachers are studying the new standards and are presenting students with learning opportunities to better prepare all of our students for college and career pathways in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, (STEAM) through our E-Business, TEACH, Engineering Design, and Digital Media Academies.   Century is a comprehensive high school providing special programs for all students and their needs.   We offer Gifted And Talented Education, Honors. AVID and an Advanced Placement program to ensure that our students have the competitive edge. In addition, we also provide a program for students with special needs.  Our technology labs and classrooms are renovated with the integration of new technologies in instruction to support our students to become successful, competitive  and global citizens of their community.  Century also offers all students with the opportunty to participate in  athletic competition and clubs to support learning. Century High School is a proud 21st Century school.
Our success is not possible without the support of parent and community members.  Parent and community involvement is crucial, even in high school. We have a new Parent and Community Center to provide services and resources for our students and their parents.  I cordially invite parents and community members to join us for academic competitions, plays, concerts, athletic competitions, and student recognition events.  Please join us and become active in the Century PTSA, the School Site Council , the English Language Advisory Committee, the Academy Advisory Boards and the new Century  HS Alumni Association.
The faculty and staff is COMMITTED to prepare all Centurions for college and careers of the future.  I am HONORED to serve as the principal of this great school.  It is very exciting time to be at Century High School to work together for student SUCCESS and academic achievement.   Go Centurions!

Please visit our website to learn more about our programs to meet the needs of the 21st Century Centurions!

Sincerely,

Lucinda N. Pueblos, Principal

To help prepare Century High School students for college and careers of the future, Century has two new Academies. The Digital Media and Arts Academy integrates 21st Century skills into student's standard based core curriculum using Art and Digital Media themes. The Engineering Design Academy will help develop student's academic skills in engineering and science while they develop their technical skills to better prepare students for 21st Century careers and jobs. Century offers Engineering courses in Biotechnology and Introduction to Engineering using Project Lead the Way Curriculum. As part of Century's Academy Exploration Class, we are using Paxton Patterson Careers Plus Lab as a foundation. This class introduces students to 7 different areas: Robotics and Automation, Materials Science, Alternative Energy, Environmental Technology, Architecture and Construction.   slide show
