Principal’s Message
Welcome to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School. We are committed to creating a school that gives every scholar the opportunity to develop their academic and character skills. Our hard working staff is passionate and dedicated to the success of all of our students.
“University Starts Now” is a signature program that began in 2008 to promote a comprehensive college-readiness culture. The mission of this program is to instill in our students an awareness and motivation towards obtaining a college degree.  Our goal is to expose our scholars to the opportunities available to them to gain a university education.
In 2012, King School became a proud member of the prestigious No Excuses University Network of Schools. Our staff, scholars and parents earned this recognition by demonstrating a passionate commitment to college readiness and the development of a strong culture of universal achievement.
The Dual Language Academy is also a signature program that is offered as a choice program for parents who see the value of learning in two languages.  The program enables students to achieve dual language proficiency in English and Spanish as well as achieve excellence in all academic subjects.  The program also empowers parents to play a supportive role in their children’s education, which leads to positive outcomes in student achievement in and out of the classroom.
The involvement and participation of parents has been instrumental in the success of our students. In partnership with staff and parents, we have worked to create a culture of high expectations.  A high percentage of parents are engaged in attending parenting classes that are offered daily through our King Parent University.  A high percentage of our parents are in leadership classes and play a vital role on the King Parent Leadership Committee and the Parent Teacher Organization.   Working together as a team of parents, staff, and community, we will prepare our scholars for the 21st century.
